Kevin Heaney

Kevin died on the 31/10/95 aged 71 years. He joined the OFP 1st AB Div when we returned from North Africa in December 1943. When the OFP had to have a number of Paratroopers, Kevin was amongst the first to volunteer, after much cajoling from Henry Walker. As a result, he became a member of the six man team known as the RAOC Advanced Parachute Recce Party, attached to the 2nd Bn the Parachute Regiment for the Arnhem operation (Operation Market Garden). He was captured on the 20th September 1944 and was a prisoner at stalag 12A and 4E Hurgelborg, he took part in a 17 day march to avoid capture by the Russian's. After demob he became the representative for the Lest we Forget Foundation. In 50 odd years I never heard him utter a swear word.
